Islam and Gender: Agreeing to Differ

In Islam and Gender, Ziba Mir Housseini interviews in a final meeting with Payam-e Zan and discusses the setback of women's rights in Iran. Ziba Mir-Housseini discusses the ways where justice for women can be achieved. Ziba Mir-Hosseini interviews multiple people about the gender inequality. This article was especially hard for me to read. We read and see everyday the oppression of Muslim women. Women are not obligated to work yet they are criticized for doing so. In the interview, Ziba Mir Hosseini disscisses the con pet of temporary marriage and bloody money. The human value between a Muslim man and women is based on gender but rather based on the fact that a women's economic value is half coma red to a mans.
But reading this article to learn that women don't hold as much meaning as men is personally hurtful to me. Even in my family who are Indians its hard for women to be appreciated or held to the same level as a man would be. But in recent times the Indian mentality is changing and women are seen as equal to men. The situation for Muslim women is different and hard for the them to achieve equality because of the thinking that is already set in mind. Also including the practices and traditions that passed down from generations where women are help in a special view.
